Now Medical and Engineering Study Material In Regional Language
The Government of India has recently taken a decision that is of great importance to students who are eager to study in their own native language. As a result, the government has made it official that the study material for all courses under school and higher education will be readily available in digital format, in the Indian languages included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
Regional Languages
The government has given a directive to educational regulators such as UGC, AICTE, NCERT, NIOS, IGNOU and heads of institutions like IITs, CUs and NITs to ensure that study material is available in Indian languages for all courses within three years. This directive was issued on 19th January 2024 by the Ministry of Education.
The government has requested UGC, AICTE, and the Department of School Education to address the problem in state schools and universities.
Importance of studying in native languages
As a student, studying in your own language can be a truly rewarding experience. Not only does it provide you with a level of comfort and familiarity, but it also allows you to think more innovatively and creatively. When you are able to express yourself in your native language, you don’t have to worry about the nuances of another language, which can sometimes make it difficult to convey your thoughts and ideas effectively.
Without the added stress of language barriers, you can fully immerse yourself in your studies and focus on what really matters – learning. In this way, language becomes a tool for self-expression and exploration, enabling you to tap into your full potential as a student. Whether it’s writing an essay or participating in a class discussion, studying in your own language can truly bring out the best in you.
In Line with The National Education Policy of 2020
It is important to teach students in their own language, and the National Education Policy recognizes this importance. Students learn better when they can use their own language. By teaching in multiple languages, students have more opportunities to learn and feel included in school. It requires work and resources, but it benefits everyone. Multilingual education can create a more united and successful society where everyone feels supported.
The National Education Policy of 2020 has emphasized the incredible importance of the diversity in language that is a defining characteristic of India. This multifaceted aspect of the country is not just a feature, but rather a valuable strength that should be acknowledged and utilized for its full potential in all aspects of society.
From social and cultural development, to economic and educational growth, the NEP-2020 recognizes that the inclusion and cultivation of multiple languages in all aspects of life is paramount. Through embracing and fostering the linguistic diversity of India, the nation can move towards a brighter and more prosperous future. This idea is greatly supported and encouraged by the NEP-2020 as it recognizes the value of multilingualism in a globalized world and stresses upon the need for more inclusive approaches in education.
Viksit Bharat Vision 2047
Mission ‘Viksit Bharat’ aims to transform India into a highly developed and prosperous nation by the year 2047. Through this mission, we are dedicated to fostering a wide range of innovative and sustainable development practices across various sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, industrialization, and more.
By leveraging cutting-edge technology, empowering communities, and collaborating with government agencies, private entities and other stakeholders, we aim to accelerate the pace of growth and drive India towards becoming a knowledge-based economy. We believe that every citizen of our nation deserves access to equal opportunities and resources, and we are committed to bridging the socio-economic divide by promoting inclusive growth. Together, we can work towards building a better, brighter, and more prosperous future for all Indians.
It has been proven that the use of local languages for content creation will not only enhance the breadth and depth of information available, but also contribute to the development of multiculturalism within our society. By utilizing and supporting multilingualism, we can promote the richness of Indian languages and create opportunities for more individuals to understand and access valuable information in the preferred language, thus making crucial information more readily available.
Additionally, strengthening local and regional languages will aid in “Viksit Bharat,” which aims to transform India into an advanced, sustainable and equitable nation by 2047. Therefore, investing in the creation of content in local languages would be a significant step towards ensuring progress towards this goal, in addition to supporting India’s cultural and linguistic diversity.

Competitive exams
With the rise of multilingualism and a push towards more inclusive education in India, competitive exams such as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), and the Calcutta University Entrance Test (CUET) have expanded their language options. Now, students can take these exams in any of the 13 officially recognized Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, and Telugu.
This move is a step towards breaking down language barriers and ensuring that all students, regardless of their mother tongue, have equal access to opportunities in higher education. In addition, it is hoped that this expansion of language options will encourage more students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, ultimately benefiting the overall growth and development of the country.
To Summarize
This remarkable step taken by the government will provide immense benefits to the student community as it will enable them to learn by reading and studying in their mother tongue. It will not only help them understand the subject matter better but also help in cultivating a stronger sense of connection and understanding towards their own culture and heritage.
By creating digital content in regional languages, the government is certainly taking a promising and progressive step forward that will have far-reaching positive impacts on the academic sector of the country.
