Academic Bank of Credit

Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is the initiative of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Ministry of Education (MoE) respectively. The Academic Bank of Credits plays a pivotal role in facilitating student mobility among Higher Education Institutions and facilitating the smooth integration of skills and experiences into a Credit-Based system

The Academic Bank of Credit, summarized briefly, operates as an online centralized system focused on credit accumulation, redemption, credit audit trail management, and credit accounting. This comprehensive platform offers several advantages, such as facilitating student mobility, providing academic flexibility, empowering students to choose their own learning path, and recognizing their learning achievements effectively.

One key feature of the system is its support for multiple entry and multiple exit points, allowing students to engage in anytime, anywhere learning while studying at their own pace. The transparency inherent in the Academic Bank of Credit ensures a streamlined and accessible educational experience for students.

Understanding the One Nation One Student Id Scheme:

So what is this One Nation One Student Id Scheme also popularly Known as APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry). As the Name Suggests This Student Id with be one permanent account number awarded to a student, which will be an unique identification for that particular student.

This would be very similar to the aadhar card number or say the PAN card number that people are well aware of now. This Unique ID Number will be used to store all past, present and future academic records of the student.  That means all records from the start of the educational life till the end of the educational life will be stored in a digital format with the Academic Bank of Credits.

You as a Student or an Educational institute or perhaps a prospective employer will now be able to access your complete academic profile in just one click by accessing your APAAR id number.

A Point to Note is this information will only be allowed access with your permission or your authorization. Else this will be stored in the bank in your personal locker  called the DigiLocker, which by now many of you must be familiar with. If not lets understand that in short.

Digi Locker

Digi Locker as the name suggest is a digital locker developed by the government of India with a purpose to store all your important documents in a digitized form. All your important documents whether it is your passport, your aadhar card, pan card, ration card, your vehicle registration or driving license, etc can be easily stored in the digital locker.

And the best part is all these digital documents are considered valid by governmental agencies. say for example you can easily show your digital drivers license to a policeman incase you are asked for any traffic violation. You could use your digitized voter id when you vote the next time. It is an official application by the Government and is completely safe and securely encrypted with several layers of security firewalls.

How does it work?:

You need to download the official digilocker app on your mobile or computer. and register with the app. The process is simple and user friendly, after your registration gets aadhar verified , you are good to go.  One you select the documents you wish to digital store you simply need to click on the mentioned services.  So say you have to upload your passport details all you need to do is input a few details and submit. Your submission get processed and verified by the Ministry of External Affairs. if your inputs match with their database, your document gets digitally approved and will now be available for any digital use

Important Tip: Though the digilocker is safe vault and your information is safe with the government, doesn’t mean you should be careless about it. That it do not share the login details  with anyone you do not trust. Avoid registration of Digilocker with the help of any local mobile vendor. Its like a safe vault in a bank, you wouldn’t give the keys to your vault to any Tom, Dick or Harry just because the vault is safe in the bank.

Role of The Academic Bank of Credit:

Lets understand the role of the Academic Bank of Credit in this entire scheme. First of All its a bank, and a bank has two primary functions lending and borrowing or give and take in simple terms. So that is what this Academic Bank will do it will collect your credentials/ credits/marks and will give it to some other user asking for it.

Say after finishing your high school now you want to take admission in a college. you will need verified documents such as mark sheets and leaving certificate. Note: Your birth certificate is submitted to the school where you first admitted during your kindergarten. You never get it back but as you leave school you get a leaving certificate which is not a validation document to validate your birth date because it is string which started from the birth certificate  and culminates in a leaving certificate from the school

Many who are reading this for their children would recall the hardship they must have gone just to get some of these certificates. The good news is all this will now be lost in thin air. Because with this unique  APPAR id your entire string of documents will now be digitized.

The Hospital or your Municipal Authorities responsible for your birth certificate will validate your birth credentials associated with this Unique id. Your school will take these digitized documentation and will send all your academic documentations, marks, credits, certifications and credentials to the Academic Bank of credits.

so now when you are planning to get a admission ins certain college, all you need to give is your unique id. the college will ask the academic bank of credits for all the relevant academic documents and you will be granted an admission subject to other eligibility criteria’s. So no more leaving certificate or transfer certificate, basically all your certificate problems are solved.

Your future employer at the time of recruitment can ask for access to your academic documentation and will  have a complete record of all your achievements since childhood  till your doctorate with just one unique number the APAAR Id.

So to summarize the Academic Bank of credit will have a role of a facilitator in transferring your credentials from a provider to a seeker. Your Apaar registration will help you open an account with this bank where your digilocker will perform like your passbook.
